We were upgraded to a large SUV as the luggage did not fit in the original vehicle. This was excellent. However, the condition of the vehicle was poor. The bodywork had several scratches and dints, the seats dirty, no water in the screen wash and a plastic cover missing from an internal door handle.

AVIS gave us a Passenger Van that broke down suddenly on the morning of 25-12-2025 in the mountain of Bryce Canyon, Utah. AVIS left us stranded in a cold place. We had to seek the assistance from the Park Rangers to transport my family of & and luggage down to the town centre in Bryce Canyon. AVIS did not offer an immediate replacement vehicle. We had to find a hotel on our own for the night. The next day, we had to seek help to find transport from Bryce Canyon to Las Vegas. The costs of transport was exorbitant at USD1,500-00 due to a long distance as the taxi had to come from Cedas City (95cmiles to Bryce Canyon) and from Bryce Canyon to Las Vegas (265 miles). AVIS has a branch in Cedas City, Utah but was not willing to offer an replacement vehicle or offer any temporary transport to Cedas City. We had not only had to pay the taxi fare ($1,500.00) and hotel (about $276) but also lost almost 2 days of tour time.
AVIS did not even offer ANY ASSISTANCE on our ordeal. When we requested on numerous times for the reimbursement of taxi fares & hotel costs, AVIS only offer 3 days rental on next visit and $100 after appeals.
When we return the van to AVIS in San Francisco Airport, we met the Manager, Ms Autumn Post, who promised us that she would look into our reimbursement requests. We emailed on 2-1-2024 to Ms Autumn, detailing our ordeal and receipts of taxi fares & hotels, until now, we have yet to hear from Ms Autumn. We felt disappointed and angry with the very poor service standard by AVIS.

Terrible service and I will never use Avis again. They overcharged me for fuel, included unexplained charges and incorrectly informed me on charges for a GPS. I plan to complain to their head office on the numerous inconsistencies in charges.
It was my first time using the company, and if their intention was to never get me to do business through them again, then they succeeded.

All rental companies at San Francisco Airport are in one location, making it very convenient. Plus, AVIS car pickup is on the first floor, which is great. The first staff member we met insisted there were no Mustangs and kept pushing us to upgrade. We went to the car lot and saw numerous Mustangs, so we talked to a different staff member and finally got a Mustang! Los Angeles Airport is not like this – each company is quite far from the others.

I didn't have a good experience with AVIS. The staff seemed to take advantage of customers whose English wasn’t very good. After waiting in line for over an hour, the attendant said he needed to find the car. About 15 to 20 minutes later, he returned and asked how many people and how much luggage I had. I told him the truth and he said he would get me a bigger car. I asked if the upgrade was free, and he nodded. When handling the paperwork, I had some questions about toll fees, so I asked for a Chinese-speaking representative. I also asked her about the upgrade, and she said it wasn’t free; it would cost $17 more per day. I immediately requested no upgrade. The initial male attendant pretended to confirm this and then told me that my reserved car was unavailable and that he had to give me an upgrade, which would cost a total of $14 for 11 days. Since we had already waited a long time and my elderly companions were very tired, I agreed. Later, I found out the Ford Flex they gave me was actually less spacious than the Chrysler Town and Country MPV I originally booked. In summary, it felt like a scam.

The service attitude of the sales staff and manager when picking up the car was extremely poor! They probably saw my Chinese face and assumed I wouldn't upgrade my insurance. They deliberately suggested my reserved model was unavailable and offered a downgrade instead of an upgrade. In fact, they had my reserved EDGE ready. After expressing my strong dissatisfaction, they still had an arrogant attitude, saying their store handles thousands of cars daily and can't meet all order requests. If I didn't agree to the downgrade, I would have to wait for a returned vehicle. Another sales representative found an excuse to get the car after seeing my anger. When I picked up the car, I noticed many different models in the parking lot. It felt very much like customer discrimination. It was an infuriating experience, especially since the flight was delayed, making it past 11 PM, and I had to argue at the counter. Although it's rare to see such outbursts abroad, not fighting for your due benefits means you'll get nothing. On a positive note, the vehicle itself was very satisfying, with great power and handling.

The San Francisco airport location was extremely busy; we waited for almost an hour. The staff were inefficient, and I saw one woman chatting away with a customer, completely ignoring the line behind. Although the rental cost through zuzuche was 1250 USD, we added insurance for about 90 USD, making the final bill 1420 USD. The staff tried to add various insurances, and you have to negotiate yourself. It's quite troublesome, especially if your English is not good.

The cars from Avis in San Francisco are not very new. When I went to pick up the car, they informed me that the reserved model was not available and gave me a very old Ford instead, claiming it was the only similar model available. If I wanted to change cars, I had to pay extra. I saw many similar models at the pickup point, but after checking and returning to the counter, they still insisted it wasn't the same type and that I had to pay extra. The attendant was Chinese and tried to overcharge me just the same. I thought a big company like Avis wouldn’t have such issues. Finally, after arguing with the manager, they gave me another car, which they claimed was an upgraded Ford Explorer.

We picked up the car at San Francisco Airport on December 28, 2014. The front desk was an Asian guy who didn't speak Chinese at first, but suddenly spoke it when he tried to sell me additional insurance, fearing I might not understand. We originally reserved a Ford Edge, but it was not available upon arrival and we were offered a KIA SUV. I said I didn't like KIA, so they finally gave us a Chevrolet Captiva for the same price. Later, I realized the Captiva is a compact SUV, while the Edge is a standard SUV, and there should have been a price difference, but we were in a hurry and didn't notice. When driving on Highway 1, a small rock chipped the windshield, but it wasn't noticeable unless you looked closely. We didn't mention it when returning the car in Los Angeles, and the return went smoothly. Overall, I'm satisfied with AVIS, but the front desk service at San Francisco Airport could be improved.

Very dissatisfied with the staff handling the rental. We waited in line at the counter at noon, and after half an hour, it was our turn. An older man served us very slowly. Since we had a lot of people and luggage, he said our reserved large car wasn't good and recommended upgrading the model for an extra $30 per day, which seemed reasonable, so we accepted. However, his operation was extremely slow and unfamiliar. He first charged my credit card a pre-authorization of over $4,800. Then he said he made a mistake and needed to cancel, since we upgraded the car model. He charged me $5,800, saying the first charge would be refunded. Later, we found out the $4,800 would be frozen for over two months, causing inconvenience for subsequent expenses. Why not recommend the upgrade before processing the payment? During the transaction, he kept saying he needed to CHECK the car, making us wait at the counter for over four hours. Despite various urgings, he kept saying 'soon'. I'd just flown for 14 hours, was tired and hungry, and nearly fainted. Finally, I complained to the manager, who immediately arranged a brand new SUBURBAN for us, which resolved the issue. What on earth!?
We had to swap the car once more due to other issues, and AVIS did it efficiently, saying it would take two hours and it was very punctual. This service was satisfactory.
Returning the car was very convenient without needing GPS, just follow the signs, very clear.

Although people abroad might not care about car brands as much as Chinese do, we were joyful to book a Ford Edge, only to be informed upon arrival that we were given a Mitsubishi instead. After some negotiation, we finally got a Dodge, which somewhat impacted the overall experience. I think if we can select a Ford Edge during booking, why can't they reserve it in advance? If it's already booked, we should be notified ahead so we can choose something else. We booked in advance, but due to the car rental company's fault, we didn't get the planned vehicle. They didn't provide us with a car of equal value, but one that was much cheaper, which was really unsatisfactory.

Then he took me to see a Kia SUV and said it was only $50 a day. Since the price was similar to my original booking, I agreed. But I was shocked to see the final bill was over $800 for 8 days. This is outright deception! It's partly my fault for trusting him because he seemed very enthusiastic, and I didn't scrutinize the documents after repeatedly confirming it was $50 a day. Returning the car with Avis was pretty easy. Sometimes, if you rent from younger staff, they might suggest upgrades. For an extra $10 a day, I upgraded to a GMC YUKON, which was worth it. But occasionally, you get an older staff member who doesn't offer upgrades and lacks knowledge. They equated a Ford Expedition with a Chevrolet Tahoe, which is clearly smaller. While the Expedition handles better, if handling was my priority, I wouldn’t rent the largest car. The office staff were generally friendly, but the Mexican or Asian staff inspecting cars at the parking lot were quite arrogant. Definitely a bad experience. Why put on airs when you're just inspecting cars? I will never rent from Avis again. Most expensive, yet the service isn't that good!

Returning a car with Avis is quite convenient. Sometimes, young staff members will recommend upgrades, which can be worthwhile. For example, I paid an extra $10 per day to upgrade to a GMC Yukon, and it was totally worth it. However, if an older staff member helps you, they often lack the knowledge to offer any useful recommendations. For instance, they might class a Ford Expedition the same as a Chevy Tahoe, but the Expedition has a noticeably smaller cabin. While the Ford might handle better, if I cared about handling, I wouldn't choose a large vehicle. Most in-office staff are nice, but the people at the exit lot, whether Mexican or Chinese, act pretentious. That's a definite negative. You're just a parking lot attendant, there's no need to act superior, especially to Chinese customers. Because of this, I will never rent from Avis again. They are the most expensive and don't offer better service! Avis mostly lacks Chevy Tahoes!

This company is a scam. They sneakily added additional insurance clauses in the English contract. To successfully cheat me out of money, they split the clauses and mixed them with the items I already paid for on Zuzuche. It was a disgusting towing insurance. They knew I had already bought comprehensive insurance, which covers everything even if the car is completely wrecked, so I didn’t need towing at all. Yet, they still charged me for the towing insurance. For a one-week rental, they forcibly charged me nearly $80, about 500 RMB, while the rental fee including full insurance in the contract with Zuzuche was only about 3000 RMB. So corrupt! Disgusting! The counter staff never mentioned this during the whole process and only urged me to sign quickly. After charging me, they tell you, ‘You signed it!'. Furthermore, they forcibly charged me for the toll fees automatic payment device, which cost only $1, but this scam company charged $19 for its usage! On-site staff confirmed several times that there were no usage or service fees, and the contract did not state any charges, only directing you to check their website for terms. Who would check a website while reviewing a contract at the counter? This is really a scam!

Service attitude, waiting time, and vehicle condition need to be addressed separately: Our flight arrived at 10 PM local time, and we got to the rental office around 11 PM. Many rental companies are located on the same floor, and some had no staff at their counters. AVIS had the longest line, which we didn’t expect. After waiting for half an hour, it was our turn. The procedure was normal. The clerk asked if we needed an SUV and how many people and luggage we had, then gave us a Jeep Cherokee. I asked if it was the Grand Cherokee, and he said yes. When we went to pick up the car, we realized the model was much smaller than what we booked. We called the rental company several times but they needed time to process it. Eventually, we went back to the counter, by then the male clerk had gone off duty and we were helped by a female clerk. She admitted we were given a downgraded car and offered a full tank of gas as compensation, which didn't matter much as gas is cheap in the US. We asked for the price difference, and she printed out the receipt showing a difference of $220. It was clear we were downgraded without any notice. After confirming the downgraded price, we took the car since they didn't have the same class available. This whole process took us a long time and we got to our hotel very late, making this experience very unpleasant.

I compared for a long time before choosing Avis, attracted by the international brand. They didn't disappoint us. The San Francisco airport has a light rail directly to the car rental center with all major rental companies. The big companies have queues, but the speed was acceptable. There was no aggressive push for insurance. After handling the paperwork, they just told us the car slot number, and we went to the parking lot with our voucher to pick up the car. We originally booked a Chrysler but ended up with a Kia. Initially, we were a bit disappointed, but it turned out to drive very well, great acceleration and handling, overall a fantastic driving experience. Returning the car was also very convenient; we just filled up the gas and drove to the parking lot, they checked it quickly and processed our return. Since we returned the car two days earlier, we even got a refund for those two days.

At the car rental hall in San Francisco Airport, we waited in a very short line before reaching the counter. The staff was very friendly. However, we had booked a Ford Edge SUV, but the staff at the counter told us that it was no longer available and insisted we upgrade to a Dodge SUV for an extra $5 per day. We saw similar complaints online before our trip, but had no choice but to pay the extra and take the car. However, when we got to the pick-up area, we saw a Ford Edge available, which left us feeling quite upset. It turns out that even big companies like AVIS in the US aren't always reliable.

I encountered an unethical staff member at Avis who seemed to be a manager—an outright scammer. Here's the story for everyone to understand. Avis requires the tank to be full when returning the car, but due to heavy traffic, a 40-minute drive took two hours. Worried about the time, I decided to refuel near the return location. To my surprise, there was no gas station nearby (which is unreasonable because if you refuel far from the return spot, the tank will not be full by the time you get there). For everyone's information, the return location has a gas station, but the price is $10 per gallon instead of the normal $3 per gallon. So, we were fined $61. Isn't this a deliberate rip-off? That's not all, though. The worst part is yet to come. We tried explaining to the staff to avoid the extra charge, but if it didn’t work, we were ready to pay. The staff introduced us to an American man who seemed to be a manager to resolve the issue. However, this 'scammer' pretended to help us. He printed a receipt, intentionally showing a charge of 61 and then a -61, making us think the fee was waived. He also added a charge of 17, supposedly for the regular gas price. We trusted him without thoroughly checking the contract filled with English and technical terms, and thanked him repeatedly. Later, I found out I was charged on my credit card. Upon inspecting the receipt, it all became clear (I kept the receipt just in case). The $61 was not a big deal; we were ready to pay but just tried our luck. Who knew people in the U.S. could be so unethical? Even when we picked up the car, the front desk staff was unfriendly. Maybe it was due to the cheaper rental rates for Chinese customers through Zuzuche? On a positive note, the customer service at Zuzuche was excellent.

We went to pick up the car at noon, and the receptionist spoke Chinese. She told us that the car we booked was not available and that there were only two Korean cars left in the same class, which were of lower quality. She suggested that we upgrade to a new 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 by paying an extra $25. It was quite frustrating, but we had no choice. We ended up paying an additional $175 for 7 days. It felt somewhat like a scam because it’s unlikely you'll get the car you actually booked.

There was no Malibu available at the time, so they gave us a 7-seater Mitsubishi Outlander. It was perfect for our group of three adults and two kids. The third row was spacious for the two children, and the second row can fold 4/6, making it convenient for luggage. The 2.0 engine is a bit weak, but the fuel consumption is 7.4L/100km, not high. Gas is cheap in the US. Returning the car was super easy, took only half a minute.

The attitude of the Asian female clerk was arrogant and annoying! We chose the Chrysler Pacifica because we had a lot of people and luggage, and only this car had the trunk space we needed. But when we got to the parking lot, we found out they gave us a Dodge instead. It made fitting our luggage very difficult. The most frustrating part was that there was no spare tire, and we happened to get a flat. We were delayed on the roadside for five hours. Our travel time is precious, and it was wasted meaninglessly. This was an extremely bad rental experience. We will not rent from Avis again!

Since the English description looked like third-party liability insurance and he said it was mandatory, I had no choice but to buy it. Later, the pre-authorization turned into an actual charge of over $400. Spent the New Year negotiating this with customer service. Very poor experience. If your English isn't good, just say 'No' and don't pay extra.

They insisted I pay an additional $100 per day to upgrade, or else I could only get a 12-seater van. Unacceptable! I tried contacting the rental company, but their phone line was always busy. Online customer service said the rental company needed to provide proof of no available cars, which the AVIS staff refused to issue. They kept trying to convince me to pay the $100 upgrade. After much argument and a dying phone battery, I left the counter to charge my phone at a nearby table. Only then did the staff call me back, saying they had a returned car available. It took an hour of wrangling to finally get the car at 1 am. Shame on AVIS!

1. The rental office forced a Roadside Assistance Package (RSN) on me for $78, explaining it as 'various taxes and fees.' I was not careful at the time and did not question it. Remember to clearly review and ask about all charges before signing anything, since once signed, you cannot appeal.
2. I did not use the Toll Pass, but I was still charged $28 (4 dollars per day for 7 days). I suspect it's because I accidentally went through an electronic toll lane on the Golden Gate Bridge (although I had paid online in advance), which activated the toll pass and resulted in a daily charge. This is completely unreasonable.

This is a terrible company. The car wasn't even full on fuel when I got it, one segment was missing. The staff were very rude when I returned the car. Initially, they were polite, but when I mentioned the issues, they switched to speaking rapidly with a Mexican accent to brush me off. They didn't even listen to my full explanation and just walked off. The front desk also had the same attitude! If this is how they treat customers, it's better if they don't serve Chinese customers at all. The experience was extremely poor; even a zero would be too generous.

Renting and returning the car was very convenient. After getting off the plane, you can follow the signs to find the rental location. For returning, just drive to the designated spot and leave the key in the car.

Very good experience, everything went smoothly. The car was spacious and easy to drive. At the rental counter, they just asked if additional insurance was needed, and if not, they were fine with it. There were staff in the parking lot to assist as well. Very worry-free, highly recommended!
