The car provided was a 2007 model with 140,000 kms on the odometer. We rented an ‘economy’ size car but received a car that most rental companies would classify as ‘compact’. Half way through our journey, we realised the front tyre was so bald that the wire was showing. The spare was only an emergency temporary spare and not sufficient to travel the distance required for the rest of our trip. We contacted the emergency EZU number and had no answer. When we got through to EZU the staff simply said ‘take it to a mechanic and we’ll sort it out when you return the car’. We were in Queenstown and attempted to take the car to EZU’s Queenstown branch but could not locate it and their customer service refused to provide the address. The only options provided by EZU were to repair the car ourselves or leave it at the airport (without a replacement provided). Overall, EZU were difficult to deal with, we were given an unroadworthy car and no emergency assistance.

They gave us a different car than stated in the reservation. It was falling apart from the get go (badly beat up and the wheel covers were affixed with plastic strips) and it smelled inside. We didn't realize we had made a few paint scruffs on the front bumper and they charged us 840 dollars essentially claiming they would have to change the front part, though no bumps had been made. Absolute fraudsters.

Car was in bad shape, seems like it could breakdown any moment, i believe the car was almost 10 years old. Exterior was covered with so many dings and dents it was a pain to look at.
requested the counter staff to change to other vehicles but he claims it is not possible even thou there were plenty other vehicles outside that looks much more decent and newer.
Counter staff mentioned that since i was covered under third party insurance company i shouldnt have to worry about them claiming against us, not sure if i am being charged yet as no information was made to me till date.

Pick up from the airport was ok. When we got back to the office we had to wait 20 minutes as only one staff member was there and another customer was being looked after - that meant the whole pick up process took almost 45 minute from arriving at the offices to leaving the offices.
The corolla we wanted and booked wasn't available so we were given an equivalent car we were told from the same class- however it was a 1400cc car not the 1800 cc car we booked- I dont believe they are the same class of car with a much smaller motor. We were offered a corolla but told had to wait 30 minutes - then after 30 minutes were told the corolla was not available as they only had a newer car and we needed to pay more to get it.

Waited a long while for shuttle and also to get our car as the pick up location was not at the airport but off-site. We also had to make a local call to contact the company for a shuttle and that means overseas call charges for foreign visitors like ourselves. When we picked up the car and asked for the company to mark out all the scratches, they said it was our responsibility to take photos and accept the car, which already had scratches all over. They claimed that they already had a database of the car's scratches before handover (which they did not show us as they did not have it available then), and the onus was on us to do a comprehensive 100% check capturing pictures of all scratches (hard to do after a 14-hour flight!). When we returned the car after completing the rental, they claimed that we had caused some new surface scratches on the bumper even though I was not involved in any accident, and suddenly they made available a tablet showing the pictures of the pre-existing condition of the car before rental. We were made to pay an excess of $4000 before we were allowed to go catch our return flight, and the attitude of the counter staff was rude and terrible in the whole process, basically holding us back from leaving. Have shared the story with Easyrentcars on the pain points trying to claim back the partial excess from the so-called damage repair costs for the surface scratches which are just a few of the many across the car. Won't rent from these guys ever again and would recommend all NZ visitors to avoid renting from them. Unethical behaviour.

RAV4 2012 rego: GLD171 and 240000 km on the clock, 23 days hire:
Squeaky and full of dents and scratches. Some cracks to the plastic panels, front bumper coming off. Initially we were assigned different car as the paperwork indicated different rego (ROV004) but ended with this gem. When calling them next day after discovering another issue with the body (crack in the plastic panels) and asked if they are sure that this was the car we meant to use, the lady I spoke to insisted that is the one - even when mentioned the massive millage. Car that was not worth much on the market due to its heavy usage was tagged with $4000 excess and $2000 was blocked on our credit card in pre-approved authorisation. Note: we had the same hire costs (not excess) in 2018 in Europe (Poland) in peak season (European summer) for hiring Skoda Octavia station wagon with just 600 km on the clock, for 34 days, with half of excess. Go figure!
We had a small crack in the windshield (popped up in the car wash) - happened on our watch so no disputes here. We were charged $2000 upon return and explained that once the replacement is done the difference would be returned to us. After 4 weeks of not hearing from them I have queried Easyrentcars how long shall I wait before raising alarm? A day latter got an answer from EZU that the cost of replacing of that windshield was $971 NZD (?!) where glass supply only was $550 NZD!!. One week latter (5 weeks in total) the difference finally has been reimbursed.
Soooo, to recap it all: old car with massive millage, full of dents, massive excess and inflated charges for damage, slow response or none ..., still have a bitter aftertaste when thinking EZU. Never again!

The process of renting car was fine. The only disappointment was the car was older and had 135,000+ KM’s AND the car was full of dents, scratches and damage, so didn’t look so nice on the outside. I had to take numerous photos of all the damage and bring staff member out to car to show him and confirm with him that I would not be blamed for any of this damage when I return the car. I was comforted knowing he had also took lots of pictures of the car a few hours before I arrived, so we both had proof of all the damage. No issues in returning the car when the staff completed their inspection - they did not try to accuse me of causing any of the damage.

オプションでナビを頼んでいたのに行ってみたら。「ナビは使用できない」と言われ、自分のスマートフォンのマップを使うことに。
また、空港に到着して到着の連絡に手間取りました。申し訳なかったですが、私は日本人で英語もあまり上手ではありません。それなのに迎えに来たスタッフは機嫌悪そうな態度。そのスタッフがその後の手続きをしてくれたが、全く丁寧さが感じられなかった。メガネをかけていたあの男性は本当に最悪です。日本人を侮辱しているのか?もし、私の知り合いでニュージーランドでレンタカーを借りようとしている人がいたら、EZUは絶対に利用してはいけないと伝えます。
私は怒っています。

Overall, fairly satisfied. It's a Chinese car rental company, so communication was easy. Upon arrival, I called, and they picked me up quickly. The car had already driven over 70,000 km, but it was well-maintained and in good condition. During the trip, a small stone from the opposite lane hit the windshield and caused a chip. I asked for advice on WeChat, and they responded quickly. The store is close to the airport, just a few minutes away, but it was hard to find. We spent quite some time locating it when returning the car. The only dissatisfaction was with the way they handled car damage. We rented cars in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, both with full insurance. Unfortunately, both cars were damaged. While the other company deducted repair costs based on actual expenses and provided a full set of claims documents by email for a straightforward process, this company deducted the entire pre-authorization amount at return. They later transferred some money back to me without explanation, which I found confusing. Only after multiple inquiries did I learn it was the unused repair funds. The insurance company refunded based on the actual repair costs, but this process led to a discrepancy of over a hundred dollars, probably due to exchange rates and bank fees. Fortunately, the rental company promised to claim the difference from the insurance company for me, but I haven't received the secondary refund yet. I find their complex operation method hard to understand.

The pick-up and drop-off shuttle service was very convenient, and I was satisfied with the other services as well. However, we had an accident during our trip, where the other party was fully responsible, and we had local police documentation proving it. Moreover, we had purchased full insurance with zero deductible. Despite this, the rental company claimed it was industry practice and withheld a deposit of 16,000 yuan, stating it would be returned a month later. In contrast, our friends who rented from a foreign car rental company under similar circumstances only had to write a report and were not charged a cent. I don't understand why EZU operates this way. This rental experience has affected my choice to continue renting from QEEQ in the future.

The service of this company is really poor, especially the front desk service on the day of pick-up (January 29th). I booked a 2017/2018 Corolla, but on the day of pick-up they gave me a 2013 Camry, claiming that the car I booked was rented out. I asked why they didn't inform me in advance, and they said they generally don't notify customers of upgrades (By the way, the model was upgraded but the year was older, I would rather not have an upgrade if possible). The man at the front desk said, 'If you're not satisfied, you can find another company now.' I've never seen this kind of service attitude before, no apology and even arrogantly suggesting that we find another rental company right after getting off the plane. Their mistake, but no apologies, and they expect the 'tourist' to find another rental company on the day of arrival? I was very surprised by their handling attitude. I've been coming to NZ for 20 years and have never seen this kind of customer service! I don't even know if they are in cahoots with their neighbor, intentionally making customers dissatisfied and then directing them to the neighbor. If they had informed me of this situation in advance, we definitely would have gone somewhere else, not after arriving and being 'forced' to find another company. Later, I checked reviews and found that Google map reviews also mentioned they directed customers to their neighbor's rental company! Anyway, this was our first time renting a car, quite an 'eye-opener.' Next time we'll go for a reputable company, even if it's more expensive. Terrible! Due to the pandemic, we needed to leave early and returned the car two days ahead of schedule, but the rental company insisted on not giving us a refund. Additionally, they called us to return the first car because it was pre-booked by someone else. The second car they gave us was leaking oil and was in terrible condition.

Arbitrarily changing business hours, totally untrustworthy. They wrote that returns before 10 were fine, but on the phone, they said 9. It doesn't matter when you close as long as you inform in advance, not telling me at 7 PM that you will close at 8 PM and the car must be returned before then. Also, if you have something to do and want to leave early, we can understand if you communicate properly. Acting self-righteous while not keeping promises, and threatening customers about returning by 8 PM is unacceptable.
When picking up the car, they didn't allow an inspection, but during return, they claimed there was a tiny dent, less than 1 square centimeter, clearly an old damage. Still, they accused the customer. Such hooligans! I've rented cars abroad over a dozen times, and this is the first time I've encountered something so disgusting.
