You may not park in the following spots:

- Within 5 metres on either side of an intersection

- In front of driveway entrances or exits, or on the opposite side of the street

- If the roadway is too narrow to allow vehicles to enter or exit the driveway

- If parking will obstruct the use of marked parking places

- On a priority road outside of urban areas

- In front of a curb-cut or wheelchair ramp

- Adjacent to a traffic island or median

- On the street side of another parked vehicle ("double parked")

- On a marked bike lane - Anywhere there is a “No Parking” sign on the same side of the street

Parking in forbidden areas will result in a parking fine that generally ranges from €5 to €25.

Fuel Prices

The average value for Germany gasoline price is €1.39 in January 2018 while diesel is €1.16.

Toll

Unlike trucks, passenger car can drive the Autobahn without toll fee.

However, cross a border into neighbouring countries such as Austria, Switzerland and Czech Republic will require purchasing a vignette that should be stuck on the car’s windshield. Make sure you let the car hire company know if you are planning to drive your vehicle outside Germany, and double-check at the counter whether the rented vehicle features the relevant vignette.

The pickup location was easy to find and picking up the car was convenient. I booked a Citroën but was provided a Mercedes-Benz C180 Estate. While the car was slightly small for three large suitcases, its condition was great and the driving experience was excellent.

1. No physical rental contract. The electronic contract is overly complicated, making it hard to identify any damage to the car. 2. The car return process does not include on-site inspection; they only said they would send an email. 3. The deposit takes three months to be refunded, whereas other rental companies usually process it within three working days. Not recommended.

When picking up the car, I was told that the reserved car was no longer available because I arrived two hours late, and I had to pay extra to upgrade—an additional €63 per day, which was quite expensive. The store also tries to push their insurance, but if you’ve already purchased full coverage on Zuzuche, there’s really no need to consider buying insurance abroad.

The originally booked manual Ford Kuga was unavailable, so we upgraded to a brand new Peugeot 5008 automatic with built-in navigation for an additional 200 euros. The vehicle was in excellent condition, allowing us to drive across nine countries and thousands of kilometers without any issues. The car keys were handy—doors automatically locked when we stepped away.

We rented a 7-seater van, but this rental company initially gave us a 9-seater without informing us beforehand. After spending a lot of effort locating the car, we found out it was a 9-seater. The vehicle was quite large, and we had never driven something that size before. We went back to the staff to request a replacement, but they said there were no 7-seaters available. We insisted on canceling the rental, and then they asked us to wait while they checked again. After about half an hour, they said they had found a 7-seater by chance. It wasn't until the end of our trip that we realized the 9-seater couldn't even fit into underground parking lots because of Germany's strict parking size regulations. Overall, we were not very impressed with this rental company.

When picking up the car at the store, I was informed that only Audi was available. Since I'm not familiar with Audi's operating system, I insisted on wanting a Mercedes. Later, they said they had Mercedes, but it required an upgrade. I asked how much the upgrade would cost per day and was told it was 25 euros extra daily. Considering the additional cost of 100 euros for four days seemed acceptable, but when the invoice was issued, it turned out the amount was not inclusive of tax. With tax, the total additional cost was 140 euros, and the car price went from 230 euros to 415 euros. Suggestion: Avoid upgrading on-site if possible. Regarding the car return, the train station is undergoing partial construction, and the return location was changed to the parking garage at the back. The address provided in the return instructions was inaccurate. You have to keep driving to the top level and look for the Eurocar signage, but there were no clear signs below. The service counter staff inside the train station is often absent, and every time you need to ask something, it takes over ten minutes of waiting. Other than the car being satisfactory, there’s not much to praise.

Very good. The car was in great condition, and the service was professional. They confirmed I had already purchased full insurance and didn't push any additional unnecessary options. Although the vehicle's model was changed, it was neither an upgrade nor a downgrade, but coincidentally it was the same model I usually drive. Returning the car was on a Sunday (outside business hours). Since I chose to return the car in a small town (Wiesbaden, one-way rental), the store provided a self-service return option. It was an excellent experience.

Overall, it's okay. But the car pickup experience was not so great. I originally reserved a Mercedes E-Class, but when I arrived, the only option was a Haval Mocha. What's the deal with that? How can these two cars be considered the same class? To get the E-Class, I was told I'd have to pay an additional 120 euros (I rented for 6 days). Isn't this essentially a price hike? On the bright side, the Haval Mocha had only 2,700 kilometers on it, so it was practically a brand-new car. That part was good. But SUVs consume so much fuel!
