Very dissatisfied. They tried to mislead us by claiming there were no cars available in the same category and pushed us to rent a higher-class vehicle. In reality, they did have cars of the same model. Only after we refused to upgrade did they give us the same model car. Additionally, they sneakily charged us extra for insurance without us noticing. Be cautious and pay close attention.
The personnel at EUROCAR's airport reception were very friendly and even upgraded us to a Passat station wagon. The car handover staff allowed customers to inspect the car themselves rather than accompany them, unlike in our country where the condition of the car is confirmed together. This poses a significant risk. I checked the tires, doors, and trunk and agreed to take the car, but didn't notice some shallow but long scratches on the hood, which led to some disputes and complaints when returning the car. However, a bigger issue was with the tires, revealing problems with EUROCAR's service quality and management processes. We safely drove the car for three days, didn't use it on the fourth day, and on the fifth afternoon, we had a tire pressure warning on the highway. With children on board, I drove to the nearest store for inspection and was told it might be due to weather and just needed air. After inflating, the warning came up again the next day, and we went to a store near London for another check. The store sent the car to the nearby Kwikfit repair shop, and an hour later, I was told there were no issues and to trust the professional mechanics' judgment. However, the warning appeared again the next night. This time it was at the Worcester Euro Car store, where an employee thoroughly examined the tire and found a tiny puncture, marking it with a marker and directing us to a nearby repair shop. It turned out the tire also had a bulge on the other side, necessitating a replacement. If not replaced, a blowout on the highway could occur anytime, risking our time, money, and most importantly, our family's safety. Throughout this, I kept QEEQ informed but felt their influence on the car rental company's response and efficiency was limited.
Avoid Europcar at all costs! When we picked up the car, we presented the complete rental documents and highlighted key information (including fully paid rental and insurance) to the staff. He handed over the car without any explanation and asked me to sign at the section for existing damages. He charged around £1,000 as a deposit and simply told me to drive away. Upon return, I was informed that only £100 of the deposit would be refunded, without providing any settlement documents. It was only after I asked for clarification that they informed me verbally about the deductions. This resulted in double charges, and I later found out that they had imposed an expensive insurance fee without consulting or seeking my consent. This is unacceptable forced hidden consumption! Such unethical practices by this company deserve strong condemnation! I’ve since seen on Xiaohongshu that many people have experienced similar situations with them!
When picking up the car, they kept trying to get us to upgrade and pushed extra insurance repeatedly, which we declined. They asked how many drivers we had, and I inquired if two drivers were possible. They said yes but didn’t mention the additional driver would cost over 190 pounds. We thought it was free! While promoting other services, they emphasized the charges, but they didn’t clarify this one. We only realized once back home that we were charged for it! Additionally, at pickup, they only told us the car's location and let us go find it ourselves without inspecting the car together. We discovered the car had visible scratches, so we took photos and videos ourselves and reported it to them afterward. During drop-off, their inspection was very thorough, and they pointed out the damage. Luckily, we showed them our photos and videos, and they conceded it wasn’t our fault. Glad we had been cautious about documenting it!
We had already purchased full insurance through the Zuzuche platform in advance, but the rental counter added extra insurance charges without informing us first.
“Staff were so nice and helpful. Car was lovely and clean. Drop off was very easy.”
About Europcar:9.0/10
It was a late flight and there was a large queue when we arrived so we were waiting quite a while to get the car. We received a free upgrade from an economy to an SUV. Staff were so nice and helpful. Car was lovely and clean. Drop off was very easy.
The car was booked at the North Station! When we arrived, it was closed. We had to go to the South Station to pick up the car, but we were told the car was in the North Station parking lot. We complained for a long time before they finally brought the car to the South Station for us. Also, if you choose to buy extra insurance from the rental company, you must carefully inspect the car body and windows because they won't check the car for you at pick-up. Due to dark weather, they generally ask you to report any issues within 24 hours, which is very passive. Be careful!
I purchased the Super Peace of Mind insurance from Zuzuche. When picking up the car, I showed the order and the printed insurance certificate (which included English terms) to the rental company staff, but the employee insisted on pushing their insurance, using various excuses to delay the process. The pickup process took an hour and a half. In the past, my car rental experience abroad typically took only around 20 minutes. Initially, I booked an Audi A3, but the rental company staff claimed they didn't have this model. They suggested that if I purchased their expensive insurance, I could get a free upgrade to a Mercedes C. After I declined, they informed me that the equivalent car would be a Honda. Early in the morning, it was still dark when we got to the parking lot, and we found the car was actually a Hyundai Bayon. The rental price for this model at the company was about 70% of the Audi A3 price. Since our itinerary was already set, we reluctantly accepted the vehicle. This bait-and-switch behavior is truly reprehensible.
The return location provided by Zuzuche was incorrect. At the North Terminal, there was no staff present to accept the car. We had to take the airport train to the South Terminal counter to hand over the keys. Out of concern for potential disputes afterward, we requested the staff to inspect the car, but they were unwilling to go. Thankfully, there were no issues later.
EUROPCAR is extremely poor in terms of integrity and service. Be cautious to avoid issues when renting from them.
