The night before returning the car in Thailand, I was shopping at Siam Paragon in Bangkok. I parked the car around 7 PM in the parking lot. Since there were many cars, I parked under the guidance of the staff. I asked if it was okay to park in front of other cars, and the security said it was fine. So we went shopping. Around 10 PM, we came out and found a security guard waiting next to our car. He informed us that one side of our car was deliberately scratched. We then went to the security monitoring room with the guard and reviewed the footage. We saw two people who scratched our car; they were the owners of the car parked inside ours. We got their license plate number. The parking lot staff, knowing we were unfamiliar with the place, arranged a car and even sent a staff member to accompany us to the police station. With the license plate number in hand, the security communicated with the police in Thai, and the police asked me questions in English. In the end, the police gave me a paper written in Thai, saying I should give it to Budget when returning the car at the airport the next day and that I didn’t need to worry. This ordeal took over two hours. The next day, I arrived at the airport to return the car and handed the paper to Budget’s staff. However, they said the paper didn’t have the perpetrator's license plate number and that I should either go back to the police station to get it or pay out of pocket. My flight was at 11:25 AM, and I was at the airport by 8:30 AM, so how could I go back to the police station? I asked them to help contact the police or get the number, but they refused and instead asked for 856 RMB for the scratches. I showed them the evidence and the surveillance footage from the parking lot proving I was the victim. Despite that, they insisted on needing the license plate number. Even though the police forgot to write it down (I still have the paper), Budget was unhelpful. It was incredibly frustrating! I will never rent from this company again!
The location is easy to find. After exiting Don Mueang Airport, you can see a row of car rental counters. The staff at the counters are middle-aged men and women who provide serious service without upselling additional expenses. An older gentleman checked the car and helped with the luggage.
“Easy rental process and great value. Car was very new as well”
About Budget:9.0/10
car was almost brand new. finding the location was a little bit confusing as it is located in a separate terminal which you have to go out to get to. service on pickup and drop of was great, the guy who checked the car upon return even brought us to the nearest petrol station to refill instead of us paying the rental company rate which was a really nice touch.
