The wait was too long. It was the first time I encountered a situation where the computer could find the order but the car couldn't be collected. It took several calls with customer service in the middle of the night from my home country, and the entire process took 3 hours. The use of the e-toll was not explained, and it was not mentioned in the contract.
The front desk staff in New York was a handsome young man. He was very nice. The car model I wanted was unavailable, so he upgraded me to a premium model for free. However, I felt it was a bit large and was hesitant. Just then, a small car returned. I asked to switch, and he immediately helped me change the booking without any fuss. He also reminded me to drive safely and informed me that half a tank of fuel was sufficient when returning the car. This red Kia Soul is really great to drive.
Waiting over 40 Minutes for car to be available as they didn't have any of the type we booked in the lot and didn't want to upgrade etc. it was tiring.
More worryingly they have posted an additional charge to my credit card with no explanation. It just labeled as no packaged item charge and it's added $24.17 to my card. I have tried to find no it what it's for but no clue. We declined any and everything they offered and relied on the fact we'd pre booked and paid for everything with QEEQ. Have asked for QEEQ to try and fine out what the charges are for. Fingers crossed some one will explain or arrange for refund if they are not right.
Terrible, disrespectful, unprofessional AVIS station at JFK. I will never use it again. People waiting over an hour at 11PM after trans-Atlantic flights, tired, indifferent employees who couldn't care less. Shameful.
About QEEQ:10.0/10
No complaints at all, everything was as described . Well done.
The car had an engine warning mid-trip, and it took half a day to find a store that could provide a replacement. Many stores couldn't offer replacement services or home services.
Avis could have been more flexible if the car that we chose is not available, better if they can give us a refund on the difference, but in my case, they won't even entertain us.
When I arrived at AVIS, there were 10 groups of customers ahead of me (I say groups because 2 or 3 people might rent a car together, counting as one order), but there was only one counter open. About 10 minutes later, a second counter opened. It took about 15 minutes to process each customer, which was very slow, so I waited for over an hour. I hope AVIS can add more staff to speed up the process when there are long lines. Because there were too many people waiting and too few counters open, I didn't have a chance to check the car for damages when I picked it up. As a result, when I returned the car, they claimed I had caused scratches and was responsible for them even though I had not been in any accidents. Since my car had full insurance, I received an email from AVIS about the damage and am still waiting for further resolution.
When I arrived at AVIS, there were 10 groups of customers in line (each group might have 2 or 3 people with one rental order), but only one counter was open. About 10 minutes later, a second counter opened. It took an average of 15 minutes per group, which was very slow. I waited over an hour for my turn. I hope AVIS can increase their staff to speed up the process when there are many customers waiting in line. Because of the long queue and limited counters, I couldn't inspect the vehicle for damage when I picked it up. Later, AVIS claimed I had an accident and scratched the car, which wasn't true. Since I had full insurance, I'm now waiting for further processing after receiving an email from AVIS about the damage.
Very deceptive, didn't explain key payment terms. They talk about all the no-cost items, and when you sign, the printout is very faint. It looks like you're just signing for the car, but it hides $845 insurance fees. Lesson learned!

About AVIS:2.0/10
They are sneaky, crucial payment terms are not explained. They talk about all the services that don't require payment, but make you sign for $845 insurance, hidden in very faint print. Lesson learned!
