Had to wait in line for a long time. There is some confusion about the charges because I didn't pay directly through the app. The price at the front desk was about a few dozen dollars more expensive than shown in the app. Now I'm contacting customer service for after-sales inquiry.
Overall, the process of renting and returning the car was convenient. The car, with 6000 miles on it, was okay. The original exterior had some wear and tear, but no one checked during pickup. Thankfully, I took photos, so when asked if I caused the damage during return, I could show the photos taken at pickup.
It's quite convenient, but there are some differences from domestic services to note. After getting the keys, you need to leave the parking lot within 15 minutes. Make sure to check the fuel gauge when picking up the car, as extra fuel added during drop-off will not be refunded.
When I checked car rentals in Boston for July 2022, Thrifty was at the same counter as Hertz. Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty are operated by the same company at Boston Airport. Despite the different brand names at the counters, the pickup and drop-off locations are the same, and the staff are the same, wearing Hertz uniforms. The staff were very friendly. Make a joke or chat with them when picking up the car to build rapport. The waiting time depends; if many people on the same shuttle bus arrive, there might be a queue, but it wasn’t too bad. When I arrived, only Dollar had many customers picking up cars, while others had few. I asked a staff member named Martin why Dollar had more customers and was told it’s because they are cheaper. After comparing several companies, I found Dollar was the cheapest for the same car category. Renting through Hertz’s website ends up costing much more for the same car and location.
I followed the instructions to return the car and received a bill with no additional charges, but my credit card was repeatedly charged at midnight for two consecutive days without any explanation or invoice. I have no idea what the charges are for, and neither Hertz nor the car rental platform have responded after a week! It feels extremely risky to authorize my credit card to them! The car was in good condition, but how can this unauthorized charge issue be resolved?
We were given a complimentary upgrade and the car and the process all worked very well. Because I'm AVIS preferred I could skip the incredibly long queue in the main booking hall and go straight to the preferred desk. If I wasn't I think I would have waited over half an hour to get to the front of the queue (which we stood in first before seeing the sign to AVIS preferred)

All worked vey well and when I had a support query it came back quickly with an answer
On the third day after getting the car, the tire pressure warning light came on. We quickly got off the highway and found a Hertz location at a nearby hotel. The staff quickly measured the tire pressure and added air. She suggested that the dashboard is very sensitive to slightly low tire pressure, but it should be fine after adding air. If we insisted on changing the car, we could do so at the airport branch, but her location couldn’t handle it. We trusted her advice, and for the next five days, we had no issues.
We didn't buy the E-toll, and received a toll charge notification within ten days after using the highways. The toll and rental company's management fee were not high. Personally, I think unless you use the highway multiple times daily, not buying the E-toll and paying per use is more cost-effective.
Not bad, no need to worry, just communicate properly. Acceleration pass service fee is $14.99 per day based on the number of rental days, regardless of whether you use toll roads or not. This can add up. They added insurance when I picked up the car, but after communication, we cancelled the unnecessary coverage. I mistook a 4 for a 9 in the parking spot number and took the wrong car. The staff at the exit noticed and had me wait while they brought the correct car. They were quite nice, thanks.
Overall, it's quite convenient. Although I refueled the car before returning it, I was still charged. Be sure to keep your refueling receipts for any future claims.
