EZU Car Rental is run by Chinese people, and they intentionally extort other Chinese! Their customer service presents a lengthy English contract when customers pick up the car, rushing them to sign it, knowing they don't have time to read it completely. Customers assume the contract is the same as the one from the official car rental website. However, after signing, they don't give the customer a copy of the original contract. When returning the car, they find various reasons to charge high extra fees, like an outrageous cleaning fee of $200, while the official contract states only $20. If the customer refuses, they threaten to cancel the airport drop-off service, forcing customers to catch a taxi to the airport at their own expense. This company lures domestic tourists with low rental prices and then scams them during the drop-off, extorting fellow countrymen. Shameful and despicable! I will publish my experience on Xiaohongshu to warn more fellow travelers about their ugly tactics.
Accidents are sometimes unavoidable, but their handling of the incident was very disappointing and showed a complete lack of service awareness. While it is understandable to take back the vehicle after an accident, it's unacceptable to suddenly terminate the remaining 17-day rental and not refund any money, which is an unfair term and behavior. As a car rental service, there is no protection for the customer's interests. This made it extremely difficult to maneuver without a car abroad.
There was no reminder at pickup about how the rental company would single-handedly handle any potential accidents.
An unreliable car rental company. Without prior notice, they suddenly required a driving test at the pickup, where failing 5 out of 66 questions means you can't get the car and the rental fee is not refunded. We flew from our home country to Christchurch, exhausted and hungry, arriving at the car rental place at around 4 PM, with the office closing at 6 PM. There was no way we could pass this test in such a short time. Even for a domestic driving test, we need days to study. The company could have at least emailed a few days in advance. The car we got had over 100,000 kilometers on it, with severely worn tires. When we pointed it out, the office claimed the tires were fine. Being unfamiliar with the place, and considering it better than having no car, we reluctantly accepted. When returning the car, there was a small scratch on the door, and repair cost over 3,000 NZD, which is more than 13,000 RMB. Although insurance covered it, it felt like we were being scammed by this rental company.
The car model was too old. On the first day, they gave me a small car that was not the model I had booked. They told me to come the next day to exchange it and even asked if I had refueled it, which was quite annoying. The service was just mediocre; customer service would respond when it came to regular procedures and charges, but when I needed to exchange the car or ask about the car's features like Bluetooth, they ignored my WeChat messages and didn't answer calls. If there are other options, avoid choosing Yes Rental if possible.
Extremely bad, not just bad, extremely terrible!! Do not choose this car rental company at any cost! They set various traps for you and then overcharge you. They specifically source ancient second-hand cars, over 10 years old! This wasn't shown on the booking page at all, and the car rental platform has serious issues for not informing customers about the condition of the cars in advance, misleading consumers.
They charged me $250 for a minute (less than 1mm) chip on the windscreen that I don't think I was responsible for.The car was quite old 130000klms on the speedo. There were several other minor chips on the windscreen, I don't believe it warranted any attention.
I am very satisfied with the overall service. Right after landing and collecting our luggage, there was a shuttle service to pick us up. In less than ten minutes, we arrived at the store, completed the paperwork, and picked up the car. The staff was very friendly and explained in detail how to drive a hybrid car and New Zealand's traffic rules. They also gave me a New Zealand driving guide, which I found very useful since the rules are different from those in my home country. The car was also very fuel-efficient, which is great because gas prices in New Zealand are quite high. This saved me a lot of money. Overall, I am very satisfied and will choose Yes Rental next time I come!
Very satisfied. The pickup and drop-off location at the airport is easy to find. The car pickup and return process is quick, the car is in good condition. Highly recommended.
We picked up the car around 6:30 due to our flight. Domestic flights to Christchurch usually land after 6 PM. By the time we cleared customs and got our luggage, it was late. The rental company charged us an extra 45 dollars for picking up the car after their closing time of 6 PM, which I find unreasonable.
