On the first day, the counter staff strongly recommended upgrading to a higher-end model at $30/day. After I declined, they immediately dropped the price to $20/day, totaling $260 for 13 days, plus over $300 with tax and insurance. Upon picking up the car, I noticed scratches and took photos and videos, but the staff didn't note it down. The next day, when I went back to the airport to pick up my husband, the maintenance light came on. I quickly drove back to the rental company and requested a replacement. Fortunately, the manager attended to us and replaced the car with a new one with just over 1,000 kilometers. It somewhat compensated for the initial dissatisfaction! We had a different drop-off location; after inspection, the staff handed us a document. My husband carefully reviewed it and noticed they wrongly charged us for 3 gallons of fuel at $6/gallon, despite returning the car with a full tank. After further checking, they reduced the charge by $50. Make sure to inspect everything thoroughly during the rental process and contest any discrepancies!
The pickup location was in Los Angeles, where there was a long line of people. The staff at the location were not very friendly and lacked patience. However, they did not push hard on insurance sales. The drop-off location was in San Francisco, which operates 24 hours. The staff there was a young African American girl, who was quite inefficient and made serious operational errors. Fortunately, after some communication, we got a refund. Overall, the impression of the San Francisco store was not very good, as their mistakes caused unnecessary trouble for the customers.
The store is big. The car I reserved (similar to RAV4) was unavailable, and the front desk offered me a Kia. I reluctantly agreed, but later in the parking lot, an employee informed me that I could choose any SUV. I picked a GMC, which consumed more fuel. The return process was seamless despite my concern; they just checked the fuel gauge, and I was done in under 5 minutes. The pick-up and drop-off process was very straightforward. I am not sure if there will be any charges.
The counter service attitude was average because I didn't buy extra insurance or upgrade the car! They kept saying the car I booked couldn't fit my luggage. When I said 'have a try, OK?' she finally stopped talking! In fact, there was plenty of space! Returning the car was easy, and the service was good and efficient.
