Arrived at pick-up to find that booking had been cancelled without notification and no cars available. Directed to an alternate pick-up an hour away where only available car was more expensive

Absolutely unethical and shameless business! I rented an Audi A4 wagon, but they didn't inform me truthfully that the model had been downgraded. When I went to pick up the car, I found out that the Audi had been switched to an EAGLE, which didn't have enough trunk space for all my luggage. I had to put some in the back seats, leaving no legroom for the two passengers in the back. During our discussion, they even said these two cars are similar. When I asked to pay the difference for an upgrade, they refused. This is incomprehensible! They also charged me two deposits.

There was a double charge issue. I had already paid in full on the rental website, but was charged an additional £250 rental fee and £252 deposit for damages when picking up the car. I told them I had already paid to the rental company, and they said it was a deposit. My understanding was that the deposit would be refunded upon returning the car. I contacted the rental company, and customer service assured me it was a pre-authorization and I should just pick up the car. Upon return, the damage deposit was refunded, but the £250 rental fee was not. The car company said the rental company would refund me. I called the rental company to report the issue, and the customer service mentioned they would handle it after the New Year holiday. Needing to catch a flight, I returned the car and left. Now 10 days have passed, and the car company is still verifying the issue. It seems the process in the UK is quite slow.

“Never use Europcar at Gatwick”

Europcar were terrible. They tried to upsell us on the car we'd booked and then tried to do a dodgy on the figures - after 24 hours flying we didn't need this hassle. We were in the office for nearly an hour! Then on return we were told there'd be extra cleaning charges because of a bit of sand in the car! I would never use Europcar again!

Like: Pick up.. easy to find location.. staff was helpful.. They didn’t have the car I reserve... was offered a Vauxhall Zafira or a upgrade to MB E Class - I choose the upgrade for a reasonable price- Very comfort car to drive in long road trips.
Dislike: Car wasn’t clean inside or outside (I let this issue go as I have a very long drive ahead, the interior was dusty in parts and bird poop is baked by the sun onto car body and windscreen).. the car had a issue with one of its power window—- kept opening itself (so I need to drive back to rental office to have it fixed).. although the car had low mileage about 13,000 miles - the are signs of abuse within the car’s interior
