PICTON CAR RENTAL REVIEWS

The lady who helped me with the paperwork was very enthusiastic and serious, but the car wasn’t clean when it was handed over to me. The windows were covered in grease marks and the floor had footprints. Since we picked up the car at night and were in a hurry, we didn’t make a big deal about it. We cleaned it ourselves the next morning.

First car was picked up, then refused due to the undertray hanging down. A replacement was arranged for the next day.

Easy to use and proceed with booking. Very flexible on cancellations, allowed me to re-book pretty quickly. Which was excellent.

Struggled to find drop off point at queenstown airport, should have been told to drop off at Hertz counter

The car was exactly the same as mine at home so I could just get in and drive away. 2 pointers: It would be really useful to include the cargo cover as we had to drive around for 16 days with our suitcases on view. Luckily no one was interested but not having one could encourage theft. A mobile phone holder would be really useful for using Google Maps, etc.

It was great on the whole, but didn't list itself as an Apex 3rd party so no one was at the desk to meet us and luckily the Apex staff arrived about 20 mins after we got there.

Terrible car provided. 2011 Nissan Tilda that was in bad condition.

At the car rental point in Picton, a ship had just arrived, and I had to wait in line for half an hour at the office door. Two elderly ladies were working, and they were very friendly. When it was my turn, I had prepared all the necessary documents in advance; they reviewed them, swiftly printed the contract, and handed over the keys. The parking lot is about a 2-minute drive from the port office. One of the ladies, worried I might not find the car, accompanied me to the parking lot. There were no upsells at the counter; they just asked if I needed to return the car with an empty tank. They informed me the gas price was 2.5 per liter and assured me that full insurance covered everything, advising me to drive carefully and not to worry. On the way to the parking lot, she kept reminding me to drive on the left, not to speed, and to practice driving in the lot before hitting the road. She even came out to check on me while I was practicing to see if I needed any help. I am very grateful to her. A true exemplary employee of Hertz.

Car was good but terrible service at counter. Long delay because of possible staff shortage. Unnecessary detail required by counter staff and explanations of unattractive options. A charge of $30 because of location and high office rental was extortion!!

The staff was very friendly, the rental process was very convenient, and the instructions were very detailed.

Awful, reserved the car months in advance. When we arrived, there were no cars available, wasted 2 hours of our time, and they charged us a late fee. Completely unreasonable and greedy. Extremely, extremely poor service. Will never rent from them again. We demand compensation for our losses.

I was very pleased with the service I received from staff. I was expecting a manual drive not an automatic. But with a short intro from a member of Apex staff I was confident to drive off in a matter of minutes. It's so much easier on those steep windy NZ roads!

There were no staff at the office and so needed to wait. Their IT set up was rudimentary, but the staff member I dealt with was very pleasant

Due to arriving in Picton earlier than I planned i enquired with Apex about taking the car the afternoon before and paying for the additional rental time. They said the car was available but they could not alter the pick up time because it was booked through an agent (QEEQ) who i need to contact to alter the booking. I eventually found a phone number to call QEEQ but the line quality was poor and the person on the phone said i needed to call someone else. It all got too difficult and bureaucratic so I didn't bother

The staff didn't speak Chinese, which led to communication issues.

All went very well with QEEQVas the booking agent. They were prompt and professional.

Wish they didn't have a huge 'Apex Car Rental' decal in the back window.

The car provided was very old and not in great condition. Spent half a day trying to trade it in, finally paid hundreds more for an "upgrade." The upgrade worked fine until the last few days when AC stopped working and engine light kept flicking on causing stress.
