Wanted to return the car a few hours later, but they said it would cost an extra couple of hundred pounds. Since they subtract the original price from what the rental company charges, it's very unreasonable and inflexible. Upon returning the car, they said the rental price did not include taxes, an additional 20% tax had to be paid :(
“From Manchester City Center to Manchester Airport”
About AVIS:10.0/10
The staff were very helpful and provided a pleasant surprise by upgrading us to a new car. The car was in excellent condition, and the driving experience was great.
The AVIS pickup point at Manchester train station was terrible. Firstly, they switched my booked automatic car to a manual one. Additionally, they didn't accept the combination of a Chinese driver's license and its AVIS translation document at pickup. After a heated argument with the site manager, I barely managed to get a car, but it was still a manual. Given the circumstances, I had to accept it. The staff promised to check if there were automatic cars available at Edinburgh airport for a switch, but that didn't happen. When we reached the Glasgow AVIS station, we asked if they could check for automatic cars, and luckily, they contacted the Edinburgh airport station and there was a car available for switching.
Overall, this rental experience was too troublesome... Upon checking reviews online, it turns out that the AVIS pickup point at Manchester train station is notoriously bad. We were too careless.
During the car return inspection, they said everything was fine and the deposit would be refunded the next day. As I frequently rent cars in Europe, I didn't think twice and left. Later, I was charged an additional amount of over two hundred pounds, and to this day, I don't understand why.
Staff very helpful explaining the breakdown of the cost and not pushing to buy additional insurance. Gave a discounted rate to upgrade from Peugeot 5008 to Volvo XC60. No regret for the upgrade.
I booked a Peugeot 308 through AVIS, which promised a replacement if the Peugeot 308 was unavailable. However, they gave me a Hyundai i30. Except for the number of seats, I don't feel it’s in the same class as the Peugeot 308. It feels like they used the Peugeot 308 as bait and then deceived me with a cheaper car!
“A good car to start with rip-off fuel prices to finish!”
About AVIS:8.7/10
Problem with the bonnet catch so alarm kept going off and had to call the AA out to the vehicle. Should have cost 7 pounds to fill the car back up to full when dropped off, however I received an additional charge of 28 pounds on my credit card. That would have almost filled the tank!
It seems there are hidden charges as I was charged over three hundred pounds more than the rental fee. I am currently requesting a detailed breakdown, but have yet to receive it.
