I have previously rented cars from Sixt, Budget, and Hertz, and had excellent experiences. However, renting from Europcar this October was frustrating twice.
In February, I rented Europcar vehicles through a rental company at Madrid Airport in Spain and at Tangier Airport in Morocco, with a super full insurance and fully paid upfront.
On October 6th, when I arrived at Tangier Airport in Morocco to pick up the car, the Europcar staff did not acknowledge the rental company or the super full insurance. He demanded that I:
1. Purchase additional insurance, otherwise, I would be responsible for any damages. I firmly refused.
2. Pay a deposit of 24,000 dirhams (approximately 2,400 euros) or I could not take the car. I had no choice but to pay the 2,400 euros with my credit card!!
I faced the same situation at Madrid Airport in Spain.
Will I dare to use Europcar again in the future?!
Unfortunately, it was a really bad experience in all respects.
At first, I waited two hours to receive the requested car. When I came to the counter, the employee told me that the car was not available right now and would come soon without expressing any apology about that .
After waiting for an hour, he informed me that the car had arrived. Upon checking the car, I found that it was manual not automatic, as I requested in the reservation!
I refused to receive it for this reason, and he told me that another car would arrive soon. After another hour, an automatic Prado arrived finally, but in a disgusting condition.
The smell of dust fills the car from the inside, I can clearly see the dust in the narrow places, the outside of the car has traces of itching on all sides, after a 7 hour flight and airport procedures for 2 hours and waiting for another 2 hours with kids at the miserable rental office I had to accept this buggy.
That's not all, 4 days after receiving the car, a tactful employee from the office in Casablanca contacted me telling me that the papers of car I received would expire in two days, and I should be handed over another car!
I do not know how this car was delivered to me, but I did not mind because the replacement car, as he told me, will arrive at my place of residence in Marrakech, and it will be new, and I am the first user of it, and it has already been.
After two days, another impolite employee contacted me from the company's office in Marrakesh, asking to send the location of my residence via WhatsApp to send the car, and I shared location as requested.
After several hours, he called back to inform me that the site is not clear and that the driver does not have internet access to reach the site and asks me to speak with a local resident in the area to know the address!
When I refused his request, he informed me in a clear threatening tone replacement car was new, if I did not forward the call to someone, he would not be sent to the car!
The staff were quite friendly and didn't push insurance sales. The car I received had quite a few scratches, but the staff made special notes and said not to worry about them. Returning the car went smoothly, and the deposit was quickly released within three or four days.
The service was excellent; just presented all the necessary pick-up documents, and everything went smoothly. There was no aggressive insurance upselling, and the car I got was upgraded to an SUV. It was a 10-month-old car with over 20,000 kilometers on it, but it was in great condition. When returning the car, I had it washed nearby for just 30Dh, and the staff were very courteous. Everything went smoothly. The only downside was that adding an additional driver was a bit expensive, costing an extra 800Dh. The credit card deposit taken at pick-up was fully refunded 10 days after returning the car.
We spent an hour looking for the rental company at the airport, asked several people, went back and forth between Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 twice. Everyone said there was no such thing as Keddy by Europcar. Finally, one person told us just to look for Europcar, not Keddy by Europcar. That's how we finally found the rental office. Exhausting!
In addition to credit and debit cards, you can now pay for online car rentals with cryptocurrency! Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are accepted. Curious about how long a Bitcoin transaction takes or how to pay with Bitcoin? Read our FAQs for more details.
