I arrived in San Francisco already feeling exhausted. When renting the car from Thrifty, the staff told me that I must buy third-party liability insurance as required by California law. I ended up spending half an hour on the phone with the domestic rental car service. Some representatives said it wasn't necessary, while others said to pay it first and discuss later. The inconsistency in information was very poor, wasting much of my time. Ultimately, due to my firm stance, they temporarily did not charge me for the third-party liability insurance.
We booked a luxury SUV (GMC) 20 days in advance and paid in full. When we arrived at the store, there was no arrangement for this vehicle. All 7 of us were forced into a Nissan 7-seater with no space for luggage, so we had to hold our luggage on our laps back to the hotel. They promised a car exchange the next day, took our US and China phone numbers and the hotel address, but no one contacted us. Strongly not recommended if you don't want to experience this helplessness at night. Complaint in progress!!!
Like: I liked how the lot attendant took pictures of the damages to the car prior to me leaving the lot. She also washed the car. Staff were very nice considering I had to go to this location when my original location only had an Expedition truck when I requested a small economy car during the rental process Dislike: I did not like that the car I rented was not available at the location I was to rent it from and I had to go to an alternate location. I returned the car on a Sunday, 2 hours before the return time during a holiday weekend. As of today 5/29/18, I have been charged $50 per day for a car I returned 2 days ago. Both transactions are pending, I will wait a week to see if they disappear.
