The queue for picking up the car took more than 1.5 hours, even though the pickup time was already scheduled 45 minutes earlier, I still had to wait an additional hour. I originally requested a Ford Escape but was later told it was unavailable, so I had to take a Jeep Compass instead.
I recently rented a car from Hertz in Los Angeles and Seattle. They had plenty of new cars, with the one I got only having 3000+ kilometers. But when I rented from Avis in Vancouver, they had fewer cars and suggested we pay for an upgrade. The car I got had over 16000 kilometers already. The main issue was that I booked a Chrysler 200, a mid-sized car, but at pickup, the staff suggested an upgrade which I declined. They then claimed they did not have my booked model and tried to give me a small Fiat instead, saying it was a similar model. I refused and they pushed for a paid upgrade. After insisting, they finally provided a Chrysler 300. In conclusion, I am very dissatisfied with the service from their staff.
AVIS is excellent. Both my husband and I drove, and there were no extra charges. However, the previous rental company, ALAMO, charged CAD 10 per day for adding a second driver. At AVIS, the car model we booked was not available, but they found us a much newer 8-seater 6.0L GMC within an hour. It was much better than what we originally reserved, and they didn't charge extra. Very trustworthy!
The lady who helped me in Calgary was an absolute legend. She saw my back was hurting and helped me out with a more comfortable car. Made my journey 10/10
