On the highway, the tire burst, and they made us wait on the roadside for over an hour before the tow truck arrived. Instead of towing the car to a nearby location just a few kilometers away, they insisted on taking it to San Jose Airport, which is more than 100 kilometers away. It was completely unreasonable. We tried to explain to Hertz customer service that we were stranded on a dangerous highway and rushing to Los Angeles Airport to catch a flight, but they stuck to their standard responses and ignored our requests. We had no choice but to call the police and arrange for a nearby repair shop ourselves. In the end, we had to pay for the tow and tire replacement out of pocket, wasting time and costing us over 12,000 yuan in plane tickets. On that day, it was pouring rain in Monterey, and we got completely soaked while checking the tire. Even now, I still feel furious when I think about it! A few days ago, we received a charge of $465 on my credit card from Hertz. This was an additional fee (we were told at the time of return that there would be a $47 refueling charge, but other fees would be determined later).
The wait wasn't long, but they said the reserved car was not available and offered a lower class vehicle.
After explaining that it wasn't acceptable, they told us to wait.
Later, another staff member came and provided a vehicle of the same class as reserved.
Extremely dissatisfied. The downtown office claimed to close at 6 PM, but for two consecutive days, it was already locked by 4 PM. There wasn't even a place to leave the keys. Meanwhile, the Sixt office next door always had staff present. After visiting three different locations, I still couldn't return the car downtown at 4 PM, even on workdays, Thursday and Friday. Leaving the car at the hotel incurred a $50 per night fee. Early the next morning, before 8 AM, I had to return the car to the airport. During the self-service checkout, they charged me for two extra days. Just one extra minute, and they counted it as a whole day!! Other companies offer much better service!
