Taking rental cars to following countries is allowed and free of charge:
Germany, Norway, Portugal, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Monaco, Sweden, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, France, Spain

All vehicles driving on Swiss highways must purchase a special tax sticker (Swiss Hwy. Sticker). The cost is 40.00 SFR and is available for purchase at the border crossings. The customer is subject to a fine of 100.00 SFR if caught without the sticker.

Renting a car in Italy with Avis comes with unknown fines. There were also some issues when picking up the car. Every time I returned the car, there were additional fees, and quite a few of them. They never gave me the car I wanted; it was always something similar, but not what I asked for. Overall, not a great impression. I definitely won't rent from them again, at least not in Italy.

The pick-up location was changed without prior notice. The new location was far away and required a light rail ride, which delayed us by over an hour.
